Google is about to introduce to its users a messaging service, enabling Gmail / Google+ profile users the ability to message other Gmail users directly regardless of whether the recipient has shared their email address.
This has caused concerns from privacy firms and professionals stating that it would enable strangers to contact people, Google says it will make it easier for users to communicate with friends.
The new feature will allow Gmail messaging members to see a list of all their Google+ connections when they begin to type a name in the Gmail messaging “To field, even if they do not have that person in their contacts list or do not directly know them directly, this feature will enable them to connect over email.
Google has stated that users will have the option of disabling the new feature and can choose to allow only those within their ‘Circles’ to contact them, however, the default setting will be on.
