Jones & Co
About Jones & Co
With a long and proud heritage spanning over a hundred years, Jones & Co is a family-run business supplying buttons, blinds, fabrics, and other interiors to some of the biggest names on the high street. Though based in Nottingham, Jones has carved out an international reputation – and their future promises continued opportunity for growth and success.
The Challenge
To accommodate their continuous growth, Jones & Co recently had a new 9,000 ft2 warehouse built. Since the main purpose of this site is to consolidate their other warehouses, it was essential to have it wired up with coverage that could handle the size and scale of the Jones operation. There would be no room for WiFi dropouts at the top end of the warehouse, or when staff went to the top racks with forklift trucks.
Thus, a comprehensive network of cabling was required – one that would allow for complete wireless coverage for POS and handheld devices, taking into account device congestion and other potential barriers to a stable internal network.
The Solution
First, we wired up the entire warehouse with specialised structured cabling. This was done from scratch; there was no prior cabling.
Then we installed, configured, and deployed the cloud-based Wireless Access Points, utilising the Ubiquiti hardware to provide the strongest possible connectivity for all handheld devices – no matter how many were active at any given time.
After that, it was a matter of providing ongoing support to make sure everything was working, and that the entire Jones team was comfortable with the tech. The success of this solution would be seen most clearly on the factory floor, where staff would be using their handheld barcode scanners to check items in and out with minimal delay.
The Result
With our structured cabling and Wireless Access Points in place, the new Jones & Co warehouse could immediately find its stride and fulfil its purpose. Staff encounter minimal issues with their handheld devices, and the WiFi network maintains its speed even at the busiest of times.
It’s an exciting time for Jones & Co – and with this new tech supporting them in their success, they’re in a great position to continue dominating the textiles and soft furnishings industry.
